Parent-to-Parent Matching
Learning that your child has special medical needs or a disability can be a life altering experience, at least for a time. As a parent, you may have questions or concerns about your child's needs or your own feelings and may not know anyone in a similar situation. Research has shown that the two most valuable sources of support for families with children with special needs are peer support and information. Family Support Network provides this unique and valuable service for families.
What is Parent-to-Parent?
Parent-to-Parent is one-to-one emotional and informational support provided to a parent of a child who has a disability, chronic illness, or other special healthcare needs by a trained support parent who has had similar family and disability experiences.
As Supporting Parents, our message is:
"I am a stranger to you now, but let me walk with you for awhile. Because I have been where you are and where you are about to go. I have no answers. I offer instead my hands, my heart, my listening ear, my time and my experience... so that one day you can turn to another and say:
"I am a stranger to you now, but let me walk with you for awhile..."
